In 2022, the Italian cosmetics market was valued at €13.3 billion, a 12.1% increase from 2021. The sector has proven more resilient to inflation compared to others, with consumer prices for cosmetics rising only 3.5-4% annually (as of January 2023), compared to an overall average increase of 8.5%.

Preferred sales channels for Italian consumers include supermarkets and perfumeries, followed by pharmacies and online sales, which are expected to grow by an estimated 12% in 2023.

In 2022, the most purchased products were makeup powders (+26.7%) and lipsticks (+23.4%), while lotions and nail products saw a slight decline of -1.4% compared to 2021.

Italy ranks among the leading cosmetic producers after France, with €5.6 billion in exports in 2022, accounting for 42% of local production.
