With a revenue of €15.1 billion in 2022 (+5.4% compared to 2021), Germany remains the largest cosmetics market in Europe, ahead of France. In 2022, the German cosmetics and personal care industry generated €6.1 billion in revenue. Domestic cosmetic manufacturers earned €3.5 billion, which is €0.9 billion more than the revenue of German manufacturers outside the federal state (€2.6 billion).

Drugstores dominate the distribution of cosmetic products in Germany, accounting for 51% of sales in 2022. Online sales have been increasing significantly, making up 21.6% of sales in 2022, compared to 13.3% in 2019.

There is a strong presence of local manufacturers and pioneers, especially in the field of natural cosmetics.
